Allan and Audra’s San Diego Balboa Park Engagement was so much fun! I have shot at this location probably the most of all of the locations in San Diego, but it is always fun! Zack and I had such a great time getting to know this lovely couple. Their resumes are pretty impressive but they are so down-to-earth and easy to talk to. Very kind, gentle people! I just know their aeronautically themed wedding at WestWynd Ranch in Ramona is going to be so much fun because they are so much fun!
Allan is a pilot for American Airlines, which is such a perfect situation for his and Audra’s adventurous spirit. One time, they flew into JFK airport without any plans for their international destination. They strolled down each gate in the international terminal, choosing their vacation spot based on their chances of getting Delta One first-class seats. In the end, they found themselves in Amsterdam! Every trip is a new adventure and they adore traveling together. I just love this about them!
When asked what they love most about each other, Audra noted that she appreciates how supportive and encouraging Allan is. Regardless of what she’s facing, he’s always there to uplift her and have faith in her. She also values his loyalty and commitment to their relationship, which makes her feel secure. Allan shared that he admires Audra’s kindness and compassion. She consistently goes out of her way to help others and treats everyone with great respect. Also, she’s always eager to try new things and go on new adventures, which makes life exciting. These two are perfect for each other!
I know Balboa Park more than any other location in San Diego. It’s like my second home! There are so many places here to photograph! I’ll walk you through my favorite locations. Please remember that this is one of the most iconic places in San Diego. Since that is the case, it can become extremely crowded on the weekends. Always check their calendar before you plan to schedule a session at this location. I would recommend shooting a session here during the weekdays if possible.
The Alcazar Garden is truly lovely. With a couple of fountains, flower beds and a pergola, it is very romantic. The flower beds are hit and miss, depending on what time of year you decide to propose. Obviously, the Spring is quite beautiful. They frequently change the types of flowers grown in these beds as well, so I am always surprised when I visit.
If privacy is what you are after and you would like the bell tower in the background, the south side of the Timken Museum of Art would be perfect! Rarely have I found people in this location. Another location with few people is the courtyard in front of the Old Globe Theater, below the Museaum of Us bell tower.
Balboa Park’s Organ Pavillion is beyond gorgeous! There are days when there are performances here, but it is rare. his would be the perfect place for a photoshoot! Iconic San Diego at it’s best…and it looks like a palace! Lastly, the east side of the Prado is one of the hidden gems in the park and it has little traffic. When the Botanical Gardens are also in the background.
