During Lily’s San Diego Senior Session I was reminded once again of what a lovely young woman she truly is! Everyone who knows her loves her. I still remember when she was just a toddler and wanted to be held during children’s ministry classes. She was an adorable snuggler even back then and no one was complaining! We all wanted to hold her! Now, as a graduating senior and a soon-to-be San Diego State freshman, her beauty shines all the brighter. As my daughter Katelyn says, “she’s sunshine, she’s a lovely daisy.” True. So true.
Lily’s mother Sara sees Lily’s beauty even more thoroughly than everyone else. She said, “I am so thrilled to see Lily graduate high school! She has overcome so much and is a young woman with tenacity, discipline, strength of character, and a witty sense of humor. I am honored to be her mama and can’t wait to see all she experiences in this next chapter at SDSU!”
There is no doubt Lily will be successful at San Diego State. Both in her classes and with her classmates. She is so kind, gentle, and fun to be around. Luckily for the rest of us…Lily is one of THREE amazing Engel children! Three blessings to the world! Beautiful outside and in!
Those of us who live in San Diego know that two of the most iconic, beautiful places in our county are Balboa Park and Coronado. I feel like I shoot there more than anywhere else and it’s not surprising why! I think the park is my favorite place in San Diego. It just feels like a fairytale when I walk around. There are so many beautiful areas to shoot and I seem to find a new place each time. Of course I always visit the Organ Pavilion, Alcazar Garden, Old Globe Theater, Museum of Us, and the Prado. There seems to be something lovely around every corner. Just make sure to check the webisite to make sure there are no major events at the park before you plan to shoot there.
When clients want to shoot at both of these locations, I always start at the park. After an hour or so of shooting, it’s just a twenty minute drive to Coronado. Finding a parking space in Coronado can be quite tricky, so make sure to give yourself plenty of time. I prefer to spend time with clients in the sand dunes first while the sun is high. Then we move to the water as the sun is setting and golden hour is at it’s peak. My favorite light is as the sun is setting and immediately afterward when the harshness of the sun has faded. It’s magic.
Starting a session at the Organ Pavilion is always a good idea because there is always shade. Often there are others shooting here as well but we photographers often work well together. We respect each other.
I just don’t know of a more beautiful location to shoot than the Organ Pavilion. I am in awe of it every time I visit.
This giggle! It’s just so LILY!
There are few building facades as stunning as the Museumof Us.
The museum of art has got some beautiful leading lines. The trees here turn white with blossoms in February and they are stunning.
In the Spring, the trees between the Museum of Us and the Old Globe bloom pink! They are just so beautiful!
Everyone is just thrilled that Lily has chosen San Diego State!
The sand dunes close to the Hotel del Coronado add so much to the images when shooting at the beach. I especially love when they bloom in the Spring.
It wouldn’t have seemed quite right to have Lily’s senior session without her beloved family. Have you ever seen such beautiful people? Truly amazing people.
Even on cloudy days when there is no glow, soft beautiful images can happen. And we can shoot in both directions!
It’s an Engel cheek sandwhich!
This is the glow just as the sun is setting. It just accentuates Lily’s beauty even more.
Lily has the strength and heart of her mother. That is about as big of a compliment as I can possibly give her.
For San Diego senior sessions I encourage my clients to have two or three changes of clothes. Often they will bring a dressier outfit like a dress for their first outfit. Their second outfit is often a pair of jeans with a sweater, just like Lily’s. The third outfit usually is a shirt or a sweatshirt reflecting the college they plan to attend.
If you like this blog, you will also like other blogs that are similar. If you are looking for a senior session, here are some San Diego Senior Sessions. I have photographed many sessions at Balboa Park and Coronado Beach if you are considering a session there.
