This senior is special to Zack and I since we have watched her grow up in San Diego in the Children’s Ministry at church and then blossom into a lovely young woman in the Teen Ministry. Asia is a very soft spoken, sweet, thoughtful teen and we’ve had a great time at events watching her interact with other teens and have fun at church functions and we’ve watched her slowly come out of her shell. When Asia feels comfortable she can be hilarious and quirky, and we love that abouther! One of our favorite memories of Asia was sitting with her at an ice skating rink, in the bleachers and just having a great chat. That may not seem like thrilling moment, but getting to know this shy, yet amazing kid was a blessing. She grew more and more excited as she told us all about one of her favorite things in the world…video games! She totally came out of her shell as she described how her prefered games worked and why she loved to play them. Usually a very quiet teen, we were so encouraged to see her face light up during this conversation and that she was entrusting us by opening up her heart a little. We got a better glimpse into the person she truly is, the person she is when she’s around those she feels comfortable and safe with. It was an honor that she allowed us into her world. The other thing Asia has come to love is anime. She likes it so much that she even requested it be a part of her senior photo session! I wasn’t surprised at all since this seems to really fit her personality.
Asia’s mom, Jennifer had some special things to say about Asia. Our moms always know us best and this mother-daughter relationship is especially close and lovely. Jennifer noted, “Asia Lynn Bowers is our miracle baby. I didn’t think I could have children, but God blessed us with her. She was born six weeks premature and was in the NICU for a month. She was a tenacious little baby girl and beat the medical odds despite being told she would have cardiac and vision problems and may have developmental delays. With the power of prayer and love from her family, Asia has worked through many challenges and is now thriving in life! We are beyond poroud of her talents to pursue her dreams to make films and know her unique outlook on life will shine thorugh in them. We love that Asia is enthusiastic about theater productions and has overcome her fear of performing on stage. We look forward to seeing where God will take her in her college journey!”
Asia has done such an amazing job in high school that now she’s headed off to Cal Lutheran University and will be majoring in film production with a minor in advertising. Wow! What an accomplishment! As a teacher, I have watched as students have struggled more and more over the last few years with being able to focus, to complete their work, to be able to think more critically, and to analzye information. Not to mention all of the persistant issues with mental health. Howevr, Asia has managed to get through the pandemic and to shine! I am sure she has had her share of challenges, but she pushed through them and is headed to a bright future. We are all so proud of you sweet girl!
