welcome to my blog

It was difficult to not have visions of Maria von Trapp walking down the aisle of the cathedral in “The Sound of Music,” as Claire and her father entered the Immaculata Church. This cathedral is breathtaking! Located on the campus of the University of San Diego, it felt like I had returned to the beauty of a place of worship in Europe. Claire just added to that beauty!
Watching Andrew’s face as his bride walked toward him was also beautiful. In the moments of time Zack and I have spent with Andrew and Claire we have observed that they have a quiet, gentle spirit. They are not the over-the-top emotional type of people but it appears that they love deeply and appreciate each other fully. That was very apparent in Andrew’s eyes as he watched his bride come through the cathedral with her father. Throughout the ceremony he was so adoring of her and quick to give her special smiles and gentle touches.
I have lived in San Diego for most of my life and wouldn’t want it any other way. San Diego is so beautiful and full of iconic locations and beautiful scenery. One of my favorite places in the entire county is Balboa Park. I love walking around the park, attending special events, meandering through museums, watching the trees turn white in late winter, and to just sit in the piazza and people-watch.
Now, as a photographer, I enjoy the park for the reason that it is absolutely perfect for photo shoots…and especially weddings! Although I shoot photo sessions at this location more than any other, I had yet to shoot a wedding here. Being invited to photograph Claire and Andrew’s wedding was such an honor, not just because we got to shoot in my beloved park, but that we got to spend time with Andrew and Claire. I was so grateful that they trusted me with choosing my favorite locations in the park to take their wedding photos. Getting their pictures taken is not one of their favorite things to do, but they were brilliant at it! My favorite part of the day was capturing an image of the authentic Claire, smiling in pure joy as Andrew nuzzled in close.
The reception at the Prado in Balboa Park was so much fun! Andrew and Claire’s friends and family were very gracious and a joy to work with. This was not surprising, considering how lovely Andrew and Claire are as individuals and as a couple. From the lovely speeches given by Andrew’s parents and their maid-of-honor and best man, to the conga line, and then the limbo, this was a really fun crowd.
Angelica and I got a little peek into Andrew and Claire’s loving relationship during their engagement session, but the wedding made it even more apparent. Thank you Andrew and Claire for allowing us to come along with you on this beaufitul journey! We had a blast!
I think this may be one of my favorite flatlay layouts!
Claire included images of her grandfather and her cousin in her bouquet.
This part of the begging of wedding days is one of my favorite. I just love the interactions of the bride with her mother. It reminded me of my daughter Mackenzie’s wedding day and our time together.
The bouquets provided by Native Poppy were truly spectacular! The color choices were lovely!
There were so many locations around the Immaculata that we were glowing with beautiful light.
As mentioned before, this really reminded me of “The Sound of Music!”
Presenting Mary with flowers is always such a beautiful part of Catholic ceremonies.
I just love Claire’s smile here! Her joy is so obvious!
The Immaculata always presents a beautiful backdrop!
The wishing well behind the Prado at Balboa Park makes such a romantic setting!
This is my favorite image of the day because I love the look on Claire’s face! It is such an honor to get to capture the love in couple’s hearts on their wedding day!
The clock tower of the Museum of Us in Balboa Park added just another little bit of class and the beauty of San Diego to Claire and Andrew’s beaufitul day.
The Prado has the perfect courtyard for a cocktail hour.
Andrew’s parents gave very lovely toasts to their son and new daughter-in-law.
Having a large group picture of all the wedding guests is a new and really fun image to capture at weddings.
Frost Me created some incredibly tasty treats for the dessert table and the cake was lovely.
