There are so many reasons I love being a photographer, but one of the top reasons is that I get to see my extended family at LEAST once a year! Craig is my cousin; my mom’s sister’s son. I was in high school when he was born! He was the cutest, chubbiest little man with a bowl haircut! We carried him around and loved having a little person we could all love up on. Some of my fondest memories were of him at the river with our family where her would daily drag around Pepper, our grandparent’s dog, whom he was sure he was taking for a walk. So, every time I spend a photo session with his family, it is so WEIRD for me! He is a full-grown man, with a full-grown beard, with KIDS, and a beautiful wife! I am still getting used to this!
Now, don’t get me wrong, I look forward to this time every year! As Jaxon and Deegan get older, they remember me more and more and we have more and more fun when we hang out! Jaxon tends to have a more shy nature but he was completely out of himself and completely adorable. Deagan is a little quiet, but he’s mischievious! Mischievious in an absolutely adorable way, mind you. It is so fun to watch these two grow up and each year I get to see them grow into little men. Their personalities are blossoming and it’s so fun to watch.
During this pandemic, when we don’t get to spend time with our families, it is so wonderful when we have an excuse to hang out…and do it outdoors in a safe environment. Even though we don’t see each other as much as I would like, I am grateful for the times we do get to be together. When I was young, all the cousins would spend time together often and now that we’re all grown up with families of our own, we don’t see each very much and it makes me sad. Some of us are still in San Diego, but others are in L.A., Hawaii, and Oregon. As this pandemic rages on, it is making me realize how valuable relationships are, especially family relationships. I hope this time makes us all grateful for one another and helps us to appreciate each other and value what each of us can bring to the table.
