Mustur Family – First Year Cake Smash

One of the best parts of being a wedding photographer is getting to know other professionals in this business! I have truly met some absolutely lovely individuals! Claudia Murstur of Kolibri Flower Lab is one such person. She has provided the florals for several of the weddings which I have shot and we even tried to hire her for our daughter’s wedding last year, but unfortunately she was booked! Since that time we have become friends and every time we work together it is such a joy!

Not only does Claudia have mad skills when it comes to floral design, but she and her family are just wonderful human beings! I have had the pleasure of taking their family photographs twice now (see their family and others from last Fall’s mini sessions!). I am so honored that they entrusted me with documenting such important times in their lives! I just loved being a part of this cake smash! Their baby was so easy going and fun to work with and the FLOWERS that Claudia put together were spectacular! A cake smash is ALWAYS a ton of fun!

Meet the Mustur Family

Claudia and Ogy met working at the Bank of the West, in downtown San Diego. He went to cover that day for a manager who had an emergency. When they saw each other it literally was love at first sight! Once they looked at each other, they just felt it and knew they were meant to be together. A month later they went on their first date and just six months later Ogy proposed. Since they both love coffee he did it with a coffee mug! When Claudia finished her coffee, the words “Will you marry me?” were at the bottom! How sweet!  They got married after six months later in Croatia, because Ogy has family there. They also went to Serbia and to Bosnia at that time and now they go to his country every two years to visit his family. 

Their baby, Aysha is super sweet and also has a strong personality. Claudia says that becoming a mom has been the best thing to ever happen in her life. She loves everything about her baby and every day it’s a new experience and a new challenge. This is especially true because she’s a mom running a small business. This is definitely not easy but she is so grateful to have the support of her mom and her loving husband. Weddings can be so stressful some days but her daughter gives her the strength to be better and she’s proud of her tiny victories. 

Ogy and Claudia have a great relationship because they enjoy the simple small things in life. This looks like like sitting on their balcony with a glass of wine or listening to good music.  They also love to go for walks and their ittle one who loves to be outside. After she falls asleep they continue to stroll together and get some excercise and some well deserved alone time. 

Kolibri Flower Lab

Claudia loves being a floral designer because it involves inspiration, creativity, and artistic expression. Creating arrangements by mixing colors, textures, and all kind of different flowers brings her immense joy. She started her business, Kolibri Flower Lab in 2019 with a pink vintage flower truck. The idea was to sell flowers on the truck and she did it for a few months but the business too fast. Now Claudia uses the truck for weddings and events. She is also grateful to be super busy with the online orders from her website. 

Claudia earned a floral certification online with New York Institute of Art and Design. She really enjoyed her program because it involved floral design theory and history as well as what really works in the industry. Although she loves designing spectacular floral arrangements, what she loves most is her little family. As a result, she doesn’t book as many weddings as she would like because family time is more important. However, in the future she would like to focus her business specifically on wedding and events, and train other people for floral design.  She is and will continue to be amazing in this industry!
